Spinach - Malabar Red

Spinach - Malabar Red

$2.50Price

Approx 20 seeds per packet

A climbing spinach with thicker leaves than your usual every day green spinach varities making it great for cooking however it is also delicious raw. In warmer climates these can be grown as a perennial plants, but in frosty areas they will get knocked around and are better off as an annual. Green leaves with red stems connecting to a red vine, the vines also produce a large number of berries which are edible, however personally we find them a little bland. With strong colouring they could make a good natural dye.

This spiniach is a climbing spinach so give it a good climbing frame/support for them to grow along. Harvest the leaves as needed and be mindful of the berries dropping, as these plants self seed rather easily when they are left on the ground. Avoid planting out into the garden until after any risk of frosts have past.
